Andrea Nicole Chiliquinga Haro was named ICCAC Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Haro stopped all 10 shots she faced in a 1-0 road victory in the Comets' ICCAC opener at North Iowa Area on Saturday.
The freshman keeper was exactly what the Comets needed, when they needed it.
"She didn't make any mistakes," head coach Eddie Vongsiprasom said. "She communicated well with her back line. She managed the game. When we needed a break, she delayed the play. When we had openings for a quick transition, she found them."
The Comets scored on Brenda "Monse" Villacres' goal, assisted by Leslie Martinez, 20 minutes into the first half. Haro's play allowed the Comets to push for offense and then protect the lead.
"When our goalkeeper is having a good game, they release the confidence on to the players on the field," Vongsiprasom said. "The field players will feel more comfortable and start taking more risks knowing the keeper has their back."
Haro was one of three ICCAC athletes to earn the honor for Division II women's soccer for the week of Sept. 16-22.
