Shooting woes slow Comets at No. 4 DMACC
The Western Iowa Tech men's basketball team lost to Des Moines Area Community College 97-56 on Wednesday night in Boone.
The Comets (3-5 overall, 0-2 ICCAC) struggled from the floor as the Bears -- ranked fourth in NJCAA DII as of this writing -- ran out to a 52-22 first-half lead.
WIT shot 21-of-73 (28.8%) overall and 7-of-25 on 3-pointers. The Bears finished 37-of-76 from the floor and hit 10 of 29 from deep. It was the first time the Comets shot below 30% in a game this season, and resulted in a season-low points total.
Head coach Harvis "Coco" Cofield found playing time for 14 players during a more competitive second half, which ended 45-34 in favor of the Bears.
Ashton Pennamon scored eight points with a rebound, assist, two steals and a block in 11 minutes on the court.
Latrel Davis led the Comets with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Manuel Paul and Bie Ruei scored seven points each, Leroy Pooser had six and both Agmad Ingram and Nhial Manuel had five.
The Comets will look to bounce back during Saturday's home game against Ellsworth. The Panthers (9-2 overall, 1-0 ICCAC) beat Iowa Central 96-82 on Saturday, December 2, and beat Marshalltown 90-89 on Wednesday.
